Drop N Swap & Shared Purchases

by TaxMama on January 12, 2009

Here are two ideas that have been implemented in the neighborhood of Sawmill Lakes in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida http://www.sawmilllakes.org

Drop N Swap
Twice yearly, we have a big Drop N Swap at the neighborhood community center.  All good-condition but unwanted/unneeded items are brought to the community center and put on display.  You can take anything you want for free.  You drop off your stuff, and swap it for something you do want.  Again, free.  It clears out stuff, helps “recycle” and keeps items out of the landfill, and has neighbors helping neighbors.

Shared Purchases
Neighbors who need an expensive but infrequently used item go in together to purchase (examples, tall ladders, pressure washers, wet/dry vacs).  If you already own one and are willing to share, you can post this on the community website.
