Help Community -Based Organizations
by Andrew on January 14, 2009
A positive idea I have seen already at work is to approach whatever community-based organizations you have an affiliation with – your church, your kid’s school, a civic organization – and find out who in the community is in need.
My son’s pre-school has always had a “policy” of posting info on the school’s bulletin board detailing which families in that school’s community have a need. Typically, at least in the past, the need was for a parent who was seriously ill, or had a recent major surgery, etc. Families in that community would sign up to cover a wide range of support for the needy family, from preparing and delivering fully cooked meals, driving their kids to and from school and other activities, offering babysitting, or offering rides for the parent to and from doctor’s appointments. Not only is such help much-needed by these stricken families, but much-appreciated as well. Add to our communities’ needs list those families suffering from the recent financial crisis from Wall Street, and we now have potentially even more opportunities to reach out and assist the less fortunate.
